Our first virtual symposium! Let's be honest, we were bound to face a couple of technical mishaps, but the day ran pretty smoothly and a huge applause to those that have made this happen!
It's been a fantastic opportunity for first- and second-year students to showcase their research and receive insightful questions and feedback from peers. Our research encompasses a whole host of topics; radiation sensitivity, tumour microenvironment, biomarker candidates, hypoxia, radiation-induced immune responses and not to mention a 17-colour flow cytometry panel (we know, wow!!)
Time for the awards! Drum roll please....
Judging Panel Choice for 'Best Poster' - It's a tie! With both students scoring nearly full marks!
Alex Stephens from the Jiang Lab!
Alex's research focuses on recombinant overlapping peptides (ROPs) as a peptide cancer vaccine.
Zhi Yi Wong from the Macaulay Lab!
Zhi is investigating the novel mechanisms underlying acquired temozolomide resistance in glioblastoma with a focus on how this information can improve treatment.
Student Choice for 'Best Poster'
Yanti De Visser from the Tarsounas Lab!
Yanti's research includes investigating synergy between taxol-based drugs and G-quadruplex ligands and the subsequent activation of an innate immune response.
Student Choice for 'Best Presentation'
Chee Kin Then from the Kiltie Lab!
Chee's research focuses on investigating the gut microbiota in radiosensitisation.
Judging Panel Choice for 'Best Department Profile'
Majd Abdulghani from the Humphrey Lab!
Majd studies the role that alternative splicing plays in the response to ionising radiation.
Despite only listing a couple of people here, we were overwhelmed with the incredible talent that our students have to offer and everyone that participated should be immensely proud of themselves!
Unfortunately, the symposium didn't end with a trip to the pub but let's all raise a glass and cheers from afar to the wonderful students that make up our department!
Congratulations and well done to you all!
